Direct Democracy
Yes. It Will Fly.
Democracy Does Not Have to be This Dysfunctional!
In the legacy system, most people exist in a condition of structured political subordination. Their participation is limited, their influence indirect, and their ability to connect effort with outcome is weak.
Under these conditions, what appears as irrational or antisocial political behavior—tribalism, outrage, disengagement—is not a failure of character, but a predictable response to powerlessness.
Straight-Up Democracy changes the social conditions under which people make decisions. By placing every voter directly inside the legislative process, it restores agency, aligns effort with outcome, and creates a system in which people recognize themselves as participants rather than subjects.
This shift does not guarantee an immediate payoff in terms of better legislative decisions—but it creates the conditions under which better behavior is rewarded. And better behavior leads to a better society where people, inevitably, make better decisions.
Some Facts About the Direct Revolution
A majority of voters already want direct control over legislation.
There are enough voters, right now, with enough time, energy and enthusiasm to make direct legislation a reality.
It will happen much sooner than you think.
It will be much easier than you think.
And it is already happening—right now.
imagine this…
Imagine that a member of the United States House of Representatives is elected by a majority of the district's voters in the usual way, but without needing to campaign…
No need for rallies or speeches…
No need to blame their opponent for everything that's wrong in the country…
Someone not controlled by any political party…
Who didn’t have to raise a penny from donors.
That’s right. No big money. No dark money. No PAC money. Not even taxpayer dollars were needed for the voters to put them in their seat.
Because they were simply put on the ballot and elected to their seat by the district’s own voter-controlled legislature.
Once in office, they vote bill by bill, with the majority.
Driven by no ideology other than to represent the will of their constituents.
After The Direct Revolution…
What American Self-government Looks Like…
Voters vote yes or no on legislation. All legislation.
To make that possible, each district has a Directly-connected Legislature (DcL — pronounced “diesel,” because it’s the engine of democracy).
The DcL is comprised of every voter in the district who chooses to participate.
Voters can participate as much or as little as they like and still vote directly on all legislation.
A DcL contains a majority of the voters. They put forward one of their own to serve as their legally-elected representative in congress.
Their ‘Straight-Up Rep’ votes, bill by bill, with the majority vote of the DcL.
It’s Democracy—in the Palm of Your Hand.
What Does That Button Do?
On the floor of the US House of Representatives, there is an electronic voting system. Each representative has a card with a magnetic strip. The bill to be voted on appears on a screen at the front of the chamber. A blue light on the machine goes on—It says, “Open.” That means representatives can register their vote.
There are about 50 such machines throughout the chamber. A representative can wander over to any one of them to log their legal vote while the voting is open.
They can press ‘Yea', ‘Nay’ or ‘Present.’
To put this in simplest terms, we are giving voters direct access to those buttons.
You can get started by voting on the idea of making direct legislation a living reality. Chose a button and click!
Getting the Band Together
C’mon! You’ve always wanted to be in a band!
All we need right now is a small group of dedicated people with the skills—and money, let’s not forget about the money—to carry out our plan.
Democracy, Straight-Up! is our federally recognized non-profit: Join the Board, get started as a program coordinator or part of the management and fundraising team.
Direct Revolution, Inc. — is the business that has developed the ‘Claim Your Seat’ Voting Portal, the software that will change the world. DR is an Open Ecosystem Company that has given DSUp a free license to use the software at the federal level in the US. Aside from that, the implications and applications of this software are sort of mind-blowing.
